Why Practice Malayalam Typing for Government Exams?
Kerala government exams like Kerala PSC and Kerala High Court Clerk require candidates to pass a Malayalam typing test at 30 WPM with 95% accuracy. Unlike English typing, Malayalam requires learning a completely different keyboard layout, the InScript layout used by the Kerala PSC.
The Malayalam script has over 900 character combinations including vowels, consonants, and compound letters. This makes it one of the most complex Indian scripts to master. However, with daily practice using the correct passages, most candidates can reach 30 WPM within 6-8 weeks.

How to Use These Simulators
- Choose your Malayalam exam from the list above.
- Install a Malayalam keyboard on your computer (InScript layout) if you don't already have one.
- Or enable Phonetic Mode in the typing panel, then type English letters (e.g. kerala) and get Malayalam automatically.
- Click Start Test. The timer will run for the full duration.
- Type the Malayalam passage as accurately as possible.
- Review your WPM and accuracy at the end to see if you've met the exam's target.
Malayalam Keyboard Layout Tips
- InScript is the standard layout used by Kerala PSC. It maps Malayalam characters to the QWERTY keyboard using the same keymap as Hindi Mangal.
- If you already know Hindi typing, you can transfer 70-80% of your skill to Malayalam since the InScript layout is nearly identical.
- Malayalam has more conjuncts (സംയുക്താക്ഷരങ്ങൾ) than most Indian languages. Practice them specifically.
- For Windows: Settings → Time & Language → Language & Region → Add a language → Malayalam → Add keyboard → InScript.
