Why Practice Tamil Typing for Government Exams?
Tamil Nadu government exams like TNPSC, TNUSRB, and Madras High Court Clerk require candidates to pass a Tamil typing test at 30 WPM with 95% accuracy. Unlike English typing, Tamil requires learning a completely different keyboard layout, Tamil99 or InScript.
The Tamil script has 247 characters including vowels, consonants, and compound letters. Mastering the layout takes time, but with daily practice using the correct passages, most candidates can reach 30 WPM within 4-6 weeks.

How to Use These Simulators
- Choose your Tamil exam from the list above.
- Install a Tamil keyboard on your computer (Tamil99 or InScript layout) if you don't already have one.

- Type the Tamil passage as accurately as possible using your Tamil keyboard.
- Review your WPM and accuracy at the end to see if you've met the exam's target.
Tamil Keyboard Layout Tips
- Tamil99 is the most common layout for TNPSC exams. It maps Tamil characters to the QWERTY keyboard in a phonetic-ish way.
- InScript is used by central government agencies. It uses the same keymap as Hindi Mangal, so if you already know Hindi typing, you can adapt quickly.
- You can install both layouts and switch between them using your operating system's language settings.
- For Windows: Settings → Time & Language → Language & Region → Add a language → Tamil.
