Digits 1, 2, and 3 sit at the bottom of the keypad and are reached with the index, middle, and ring fingers after a short downward move. Sloppy reaches here are the biggest cause of number typing errors.
Remember
Drop from the middle row, do not lean forward. A short, vertical reach beats a long, angled one.
